SCHEMCON 2017

13th Annual Session of Students' Chemical Engineering Congress SCHEMCON – 2017 is being organized by the IIChE Students Chapter of Rourkela Regional Centre of IIChE in association with the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Rourkela from October 7 – 8, 2017 at National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Odisha. It provides a platform for the Chemical Engineering Students of all over India to interact, learn and gain exposure to the expanding arena of Chemical Engineering. The annual session will be focused under the theme of “Emerging Technological Advancement in Chemical Engineering”.

THEME

The century old discipline Chemical Engineering has rejuvenated itself and remained as the broadest field of engineering. It is still afresh as a discipline because of its interdisciplinary approach and flexibility in accommodating emerging ideas and practices of science and technology. Chemical engineering essentially deals with synthesis and development, scale-up, design and development of plants for manufacturing wide range of products those are inevitable for our existence. This very century has posed a challenge before us; the challenge of sustaining with the ever reducing resources of the populated planet, which has been exaggerated with huge change in climate. With great humility we have accepted the challenge - process intensification, process optimization, process modeling, simulation, monitoring and control have become fresher limbs of chemical engineering. Usages of powerful simulators have accelerated the possibility of exercising and achieving the most effective engineering solution. The bliss and lineage of a very ancient discipline of science; the statistics have been utilized by the chemical engineers in the name of chemometrics worldwide in accomplishing maximum production in a conducive and benign way. Nanoscience and materials after biological sciences is expected to transfigure and revitalize the chemical engineering as a discipline shortly. Recycling the waste and waste minimization are the two significant concepts in the current time of limited resources and deteriorating ambiance due to waste disposal in non-planned and non-scientific way. Most innovative solutions are desirable in this regard. Present conference encourages the participation not limited to the theme, nonetheless in areas related to Chemical reaction, transport, energy and environmental engineering.

Organizing Institute

National Institute of Technology, Rourkela is a premier institution of India for higher technical education, basic and applied research. Presently, NIT Rourkela is recognized as institute of national importance with its enriched faculty and students. The institute has twenty two departments and nine multidisciplinary centres that offer UG, PG and research courses leading to B.Tech, M.Tech., PhD and D.Sc. Degrees. The institute is stretched over 647 acres with a lush green carpet and surrounded by the lineage of Vindhya and Satpura mountain range.

IIChE Regional Centre Rourkela

IIChE, abbreviated for, Indian Institute Of Chemical Engineers is a confluence of streams of professionals from academia, research institute and industry. It provides them the appropriate forum for joint endeavors, hand-in-hand, to work for human being through application of chemical engineering and allied sciences. Since its inception, IIChE Rourkela Regional Centre (IIChE RRC), has been very active. The RRC is regularly conducting various events like training sessions, workshops, seminars, conferences etc., for the benefit of the Indian industries and the academia

Chemical Engineering Department

From a modest beginning in July, 1963, the department of Chemical Engineering at NIT Rourkela has completed 51 years of its glorious journey. Over these years, this department has been nurturing and shaping the young and creative minds at various levels (graduate, post-graduate and Ph.D) into most effective human resources, the country can boast of. This journey has been phenomenal with the priceless contributions of some of the best teachers, state-of-the art infrastructural facility, and an excellent academic atmosphere. The Department has been active in organizing national seminars, workshops, symposia, short term courses and winter and summer schools to provide platforms for exchanging ideas, facilitating interaction among the peer academicians and the professionals from various universities, industry and R&D organizations. The faculties and students are encouraged and supported for participating in technical events in India and abroad.
